World Ocean's Day

World Ocean’s Day

About the project

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme, we  integrate Social and Environmental concerns into our business and  operations.

Gravitas  celebrated World Ocean’s Day and World Environment Day 2019 on Gracefield Island by sensitising our host community to the benefits of eliminating pollution of the Lagoon and all water bodies.

Plastics are a major source of global marine pollution. Large pieces can entangle marine animals, while tiny pieces broken down by the action of water and the sun, cause harm by entering the marine food chain🦈🦈🦈

Loads of plastics are found in our lagoon, and more are still there. Plastics are not biodegradable, it takes over 100 years for them to decay. A major cause of plastic waste in the Lagoon is improper waste disposal. We at Gravitas Investments Limited on the 8th of June 2019 came out  to beat plastic pollution through exercise which involved clearing of plastics found in the lagoon – 20 bags full of plastic waste were counted at the end of the exercise. But more important, we held a road show to communicate directly with residents on the need to dispose of all wastes properly. To reinforce this, we gave out waste disposal bins free of charge.

World Oceans Day is celebrated on the 8th of June every year🌏

REDUCE waste,
DISPOSE properly,
SAVE the ocean!
